i have an appointment on monday to view what i know is the apartment of my dreams. it is located 10 minutes away from my current baby sitter, 15 minutes from where i currently live and 40 minutes from my job. also, the apartment is a spacious 2 bedroom located on the ground floor of a 4 family home with access to the backyard for my kids. it is perfect for me and my family and the landlord said that i will be the first potential tenant that she shows it to. i want this apartment so bad and i really need to move from the apartment that i am in immediately. how can i make this landlord like me and choose me over the 50 or so people that she will show this apartment to after me? how can i win her over? i am so nervous about this that i can't even sleep and it is days away. should i tell her about my on again off again husband? we are expecting a child in february but i don't want to put him on the lease because of the shaky relationship and other problems. is it necessary to tell her about him? the apartment is in nyc and she lives in long island so she will probably only be around for the rent collection. i want to be honest and straightforward but some people don't know how to handle honesty. please offer encouraging steps on how i can obtain the apartment of my dreams. thanksSometimes being honest is a turn off for a landlord. I know coz I've been a real estate broker for 15 yrs now. May sure that you go prepared, with pays stubs from your job, tax returns, credit report, picture ID (driver's license if you have one) and the money ready ( in a check or money order) so you could have proof, that you paid them, may sure that whatever you give them, you don't want it back; don't be so nervous if you are he/she will notice that and will think that is something wrong with you. And don't worry if you don't get the place, is coz it wasn't meant to be for you, and god has prepared you something better. Good luck.
