Some help needed here
My questions are.
1)How do I go about getting a domain name?
2) How do I get a server service since I do not own one?
I am new to all this and know that we want a VBulletin and have glanced over the costs which are no problem but need help on the rest.
WebHostingTalk is another site to weed out the worst webhosts. Basically if you find a company name search for "company name sucks". ;)
People mention ASmallOrange.com quite often here. They sure get quite a bit of 'advertising' here. I don't know if they are still good.
Generally speaking if you are just starting up a website and not expecting too much traffic (no more than 30-50 people viewing your forum simultaneously), you could probably get a website for $8-12 a month and $20 a year for the domain name. Only when you get busier do you need to look at VPS ($45-75/mo) and Dedicated ($110-$250/mo). The price range depends on amount of handholding since when you run your own server they expect you to fix problems, install software upgrades, and reboot it if problems crop up.
register.com, namesecure, godaddy, network solutions, the list can go on and on. Plus hosting companies can also handle the registration for you.
