most miles SAN-BNE
SAN-SJC-LAX-SYD-BNE seems to be the best so far. Has anyone paid the extra $100 for a SYD stopover and gotten more miles? Perhaps then I can go SAN-SJC-LAX-BNE-SYD (3 days) SYD-BNE (3 days) BNE-SYD-LAX-SJC-SAN.
Any other ideas? Will going through AKL get me more miles? I doubt I can route through Tokyo.
Re the Red e-deals: one thing to remember is that QF have been rather stingy about letting people on Red e-deals stand-by for other flights the same day. If you purchase a separate ticket, and therefore are not protected if there are delays to the international flight, it might be worth allowing a flight or two in-hand instead of connecting straight on. Example, spend the day sightseeing in SYD then catch the SYD-BNE flight towards the end of the day.
First, what about connecting in MEL? ...LAX-MEL-SYD-BNE?
Also, Look at ending your ticket at SYD, then buying a separate ticket SYD-BNE (using QF's "Red E-Deals"). SYD fares can sometimes be cheaper than BNE fares, and get you that "stopover" for less money than paying for it.
Finally, look also starting your trip in LAX. That may shave off a few bucks (althouh mileage will be reduced as well).
No catch. Just go to the website and book.
Did you quote out just going SAN-SYD, then buying a red e-deal SYD-BNE-SYD on a separate ticket? I have a feeling it may be cheaper this way, especially when you consider that SYD-BNE is A$172 RT all in (or about USD $120).
Then you can route your SAN-SYD ticket say SAN-LAX-MEL-SYD.
Starting at LAX is about $150 cheaper but becomes a wash when I factor in driving up to LAX (from SAN) and parking up there.
The Qantas Red E-Deals are a deal! I'll have to work in one or two while I am in Australia - too bad I'll only get 50% mileage. Is there a catch since I'm not an Australian and/or don't have an Australian address?
They really are a deal. When I was down under, I was quite surprised at how cheap it was to fly around the country.
