Divx(Xvid) Combo issue

  • hi,

i downloaded some movies the other day that are econded as xvid(mpeg3). using the info button i can see it is using the ffmpeg codec

i find that the movie plays for while ( anywhere up to 1 minute) and then the cache drops to zero. i have heaps of late and early frames and of course, drops. the cache never recovers after this point.

the file was downloaded from digital distractions, they are a bittorrent file sharing site.

is this a known issue and are there any work arounds.

i tried treeking the codec settings in the player, but nothing seems to work.

  • that would work probably, but the thing is i can play the file on my pc without a problem, so i don't believe it is the encoding.

the one thing that i had to do on the pc was load divx5.1.1 and when i used this it worked fine. i tend to think its the codec that xbmc and xbmp use as default to play xvid.

is there any way i can chhose which codec is used on xbmc or and way of upgrading the codecs in the system?

    mike

  • i have the same problem with my stream where as mine cuts out after about 6 to 8 minutes even with a change in cache size, it still happens. only way for me to watch the whole movie is to transfer it to my xbox where i have 99% cache the entire movie.

  • probebely a bad file, try use virtualdub or virtualdubmod (on win pc) to direct-stream both video and audio to save as a new file

  • is there any way i can choose which codec is used on xbmc yes, you can manuly edit the "codec.conf" file to select which of the supported codecs to use (won't help in your case)

and way of upgrading the codecs in the system?no, only developers can update codecs (see the pinned/sticky topic thread in the feature suggestion forum)

ps! in above post i said "direct-stream", that won't re-encode anything so you will not loose quality, it will only remux a/v and rebuild the index

  • how do you fix the problem of the cache going to 0% cause i know it has nothing to do with the codec of my vids since they are avi and play fine from my xbox harddrive...im running a smb from linux but im pretty sure it has something to do with the caching on the xbox.
