FoxSoccerChannel to carry Italian Soccer 2005/06 Season

  • According to Fox Soccer Channel's Programming guide updated 8/11/2005,

Viva Italia! FSC is proud to offer a glimpse into one of Europe's most successful and legendary leagues. Every weekend we'll travel around the boot-shaped calcio oasis to bring you some of the best soccer on the planet. It's bound to be amore once you settle in and let the entertainment begin.
    Season: Sep.-May · Matches: 20 · Duration: 2 hrs

    Anyone, have more details ?

  • Remember a couple of years ago when FSC picked up the Spanish league? They didn't have rights to Real Madrid or Barca, so it was often the Villarreal game of the week. Not like that was such a bad thing, but it wasn't what most people probably expected. It'll be interesting to see what they get.

  • NNNNNNNNNOOOOOO. Oh? ok more futbol all the better, can't argue with talent. Italian soccer really does suck the life out of the game though. defensive bores a lot of times.

Maybe thats my hostility towards their national team.

  • A 9 AM Sunday live game is listed for September 11th here:

Nice catch. Interesting that FSC is choosing to show an Italian game live over Chelsea v Sunderland (which is delayed until 1:00 PM ET).

I wonder if they can choose any game played then or if they're relegated to a second or third choice match.

  • The release says it's 2 hours, was the highlight show on FSWC 2 hours long? That sounds like it'd be a match.

  • I don't know...20 sounds kind of pointless, but I'd choose an Italian game over another dull mid-to-bottom table EPL clash any time. Sure, they might be low scoring, but (forgive the overgeneralization, but it's often true) it would probably mean the difference between a low scoring game because of incompitence, or because of good defensive tactics. If it's going to have to be one of the two, I'd rather it be the latter.

  • A "glimpse?" It this to be some sort of highlights show? Old games the week after GolTV had em live? I am always suspicious of Rupert's people.

  • It will be leftovers - no Juve, Inter, Milan, or Roma, but more footy is good. It's kinda like Telemundo who show La Liga or Serie A if they have NO footy on the weekend at all. Now we need the Dutch and Portuguese leagues and more UEFA cup. ;)

It's good thing it won't be the big teams--there are plenty other Italian teams besides the big four. Maybe someone out there will discover a team they hadn't seen before and like what they see. Udinese and Livorno were both really entertaining teams last season.

  • Why only 20 games? That's not even once per week.

Wonder if they'll be live. If they're not it's pointless.

Assuming Italy keeps the same schedule as last year, the Saturday 12:00 PM ET match is out since it conflicts with EPL. Saturday/Sunday 2:30 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM are possibilities I suppose.

  • If I remember from last season, there were some pretty decent matches Sunday at 9am on GolTV. If they are getting some of those it won't be just bottom dwellers. We won't know for a while, since the Serie A fixtures have yet to be announced.

  • I'd rather it stay on GOLTV as this could cut down on the number of EPL games, which are all far more lively, and fun to watch then Serie A.

Very cool. I love a game to watch on Sunday mornings and I don't care if it's Chievo and Lecce all the time (well, maybe a little). For those of us with only FSC to get us through, this is pretty okay.

  • I believe Gol TV reupped their offer with the Italian Serie A for next season. Not sure how FSC can get the rights.

  • It's not a highlight show, FSC has picked up 20 serie A matches and I believe that FSC lost the rights to the Brazilian league but I'm sure about that yet. Goltv still does have serie A package. I can't remember how many EPL matches FSC had last year but this season they are carrying 204.

As for the small serie A package that FSC picked up it better have a good portion of them being the Milan's and Juve because if there not these matches are going to put people to sleep.

  • I love the French League. It is enjoyable to watch. The Argie league is no longer what it was 5 years ago or even 10 years ago. They lose to many players and replace them with over the hill veterans. I would not mind seeing the Dutch league again.

  • It will be leftovers - no Juve, Inter, Milan, or Roma, but more footy is good. It's kinda like Telemundo who show La Liga or Serie A if they have NO footy on the weekend at all. Now we need the Dutch and Portuguese leagues and more UEFA cup. ;)

  • Finalmente! I am glad FSC will now show Serie A. Personally, if it were feasible, I wish FSC would forget about The Argentine and French leagues, and show the big four. Nothing against French or Argentine football, but Italy and Spain are much better leagues and hold more people's interest, I think.

  • id say nothing more than a highlights show that FSWC had last season... actually wasnt bad...

    Cantona---

  • This is interesting but I don't see how it will be anything other than a second choice match. Since GolTV has the main package, I can't see them letting FSC have Milan, for instance, unless it has Juve.
