Simple Advice on 20 Partners Promotion

So many of the questions surrounding this promotion come from folks trying to make it harder than it is! Let me assure you, we're giving pretty broad definitions to the term "Partner." Let me give you some examples: Stay at a Sheraton, then stay at a Westin: Counts as 2 partners even though both are under the Starwood Corporate umbrella. But stay at a Sheraton in Dallas and another Sheraton in Miami, and it counts as 1 partner; both are Sheraton Hotels, just different locations. Same thing with Marriott. Stay at a Courtyard by Marriott, then stay at a Marriott Hotel: Counts as 2 partners because they are different brands, even though the same company. With airlines, it's the carrier code (which is right on your ticket) that differentiates. So, for example, American Airlines and American Eagle just count as 1 partner because both flight numbers use carrier code AA. But fly on Japan Airlines (carrier code JL), then fly on Japan Asia Airways (carrier code EG) and they count as 2 partners because they use separate codes. Earn miles by using 5 different AOLAADVANTAGE partners: Counts as 5 partners. BUT if you earn miles from AOL Opinion Place AND AOL Quick Check Out, it counts as one partner, namely AOL. All AADVANTAGE Dining transactions count as one partner; the separate restaurants that participate through AADVANTAGE Dining are not all separate partners. (We couldn't make it THAT easy!), Donate miles to the National Parks Foundation: Counts as 1 partner. Send Kellogg's 5 coupons or 50 coupons: Counts as 1 partner. Convert points from Hilton HHonors, then convert points from Starwood: Counts as 2 partners. There are no exclusions. If you can earn AAdvantage miles, then it counts!
You can believe the conflicting advice given to you by obviously poorly trained AA CS reps. Or you can believe the wild speculation posted all over this board by coupon-clipping, conspiracy-theorists. Or, you can believe the unambiguous transcript of the President of AAdvantage, as recorded from a live chat on the world's most popular frequent flyer internet bulletin board.
Read the aforementioned quote. Read it again. Read it a third time. Then, if you still can't determine whether a transaction qualifies as a "partner", do a search in the AA forum. Then, and only then, if you still have a question, post a reply to an existing thread.
Good luck to everyone on completing the 20 partners promotion.

Hats off to you my friend.
playhard out...
"...these should be legitimate AA partners according to a transcript I found on a bulletin board of a chat your President participated, so give me 20K miles!"
I believe in backups....

For example, for the better, from posts on 6/18, we learned that different Kellogg's products will be treated as separate partners according to AA customer service e-mails. (Appologies to Kellogg's for mentioning "posts".)
So if you bought Eggos and Nutrigrains, why cheat yourself out of a partner by harkening back to May 10th.
Apparently, if you ask, AA customer service will confirm whether or not you have reached 20 partners. So when in doubt e-mail them, if you have an e-mail from them that you're qualified, you'll surely get the points.
No offense to any posters here or elsewhere on the AA board, but please heed this simple advice on determining whether a transaction qualifies as a "partner" for the 20 Partners promotion:

I cited Bruce Chemel's comments to AAdvantage customer service in a question about Hilton stays and Hilton HHonors point transfers being considered as a single transaction or getting credit for two separate transactions.
As Chemel's comments seem to indicate by the separate treatment of stays and point transfers, I believe they should be counted as two separate partners.
Unfortunately, that's not the way at least one CSR feels:
Nothing Bruce wrote contradicts the fact that points transfers and stays with the same hotel chain do not count separately. Hilton HHonors is not a separate partner from Hilton because it is not a separate company or hotel brand. It is merely a division of Hilton.

I guess that's why attorneys can bill $300 to read an interpret the fine print and the intent behind it... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

There has been one change, however:
Send Kellogg's 5 coupons or 50 coupons: Counts as 1 partner.
---Bruce Chemel,
10 May 2001
Kelloggs: Can count for up to 4 partners, if you submit 5 coupons each for Kelloggs Cereal (1), Nutri-Grain products (2), Pastry Swirls (3), Eggo products (4)
---Bruce Chemel,
12 June 2001
Now, granted, in the 10 May chat, he did not provide the granular definition of the types of Kellogg's products as he did on 12 June, the layman's interpretation would be that no matter the "color of coupon" that Kellogg's would count as on partner.
Just pointing out one subtle difference.
