IMDB scraping and only a few movies

  • April T3CH. What happened to being able to scrape movie info in file mode (white button)? I understand how library mode works (mostly) and how to achieve the same thing (mostly). But I have at most 10-12 movies on the go at any time, I acquire them, drop them in a share, rename them appropriately, watch them and delete them. I scraped them if I wanted to (or not). My wife used to be able to push the white button if I hadn't already and see what the movie was all about. Is there anyway to still do this in the new builds without pretending I'm building a library?

I can live without it (I know what movies I acquired ) but it used to be so darned wife/kid friendly and "ADMINISTRATION" free...

  • no change :(

  • You can only set content on a folder.

You can lookup movie info on either files or folders (assuming you've already set content ofcourse!)

  • if you hit the white button it brongs up a menu click movie information.

  • well, this is NOT a general issue.

  • Thanx for the help. This IS a fresh install. The problem is that I can ONLY scan/scrape movie info on folders. I can't do it on idividual files anymore. Does anyone know if this is by design at this point in time?

    Again, Thanx for the help...

  • Don't think this would be much fun if you had a raft of files tho...

Which is unfortunately the situation I'm in with about 120 movies on my PC that I'm accessing from XBOX via SMB.. :sniffle:

  • Well Just put in a fresh T3Ch (April 8/9). This didn't change anything. Then in a brilliant flash I tried moving an avi onto the xbox itself (F:Videos) from the file server. This now allows me to select "Movie Information" on this one file. Possible bug?

The fileserver has not changed. XP Pro, NTFS, etc. Some of the files (my Black Adder and Hitchhikers Guide) have been on the server since I put it together. The only change was to a more recent XBMC build... Unfortunately after I tested it on one XBOX I upgraded the other two before noticing this problem. I believe the version I replaced was late Feb/early March.

BTW I don't think I said this previously but great but of SW....

  • I'm seeing same issue with the 2007-04-01_rev8391-T3CH build.

I can set content type and get IMBD info on files on the local XBOX hard drive but cannot perform the same actions on files/folders on a SMB Network share.

  • No it doesn't. Stock April 1 T3CH build. I get, in file mode, when pushing white button, Play using, Settings, Go to Root, and Switch Media.

Under the new setup I have to create a folder, name the folder after the movie, drop the file in the folder, do a white button on the folder... Not a big deal but this takes away from the simplicity of earlier builds.

It still works the old way for Music. I can highlight any individual tune, select the white button and pick Album information. This is no longer possible in Videos. Only works on folders.

    thanx for the help anyway...

  • Thats where the problem appears to be. I put in the new build. Set Content, Scanned. Got some couple of wrong items. I cannot select "Movie Information" on a file. Only on a folder. "Setting Content" adds the "Movie Information" to the folder not the files. the only items on a file are "Queue Item", "Play Using", "Settings", "Go to Root", and "Switch Media" (also "Now Playing" if I have a video on the go). i got around it by creating folders for all individual movies. This allowed me to set content and attach movie info.

Maybe its not by design then? I hadn't updated in a couple or three months so possibly a T3CH problem. I will get the next package later today and see...

    Thanx for your help...

  • I had the same problem as you. When I checked the forums, and people seemed to think that it wouldn't be an issue, I took a look at it myself again.
In my case, this problem was resolved when I made a backup of my sources.xml (and keymap.xml since I customized mine) from the UserData folder. Then deleted my userdata folder, and restored it from the latest T3CH build. Then I re-copied in my sources.xml and keymap.xml, manually reset all of my system settings, and voila! Now when pressing the white button I was able to scan the whole folder to rebuild the database and download thumbnails again.
Obviously it was something from my old builds' db or settings which prevented this function from working correctly on the current build, but once it was all purged, no more problem.
    Hope this helps

  • Thanx for looking at it, Spiff...

I took some time this afternoon and tried another share on another XP machine and move a file up to my linux Office Server (ARM based Samba 2.0.7)... Same result.

I also tried the 4/15 T3CH, did a clean install (format x,y,z, cleared cache, deleted XBMC folder) and tried that in conjunction with the above. No change

Everything (Movie info, Resume, etc) works exactly like it should but "Movie Information" only works on the folder (unless local to the xbox). As I said when I started this thread, I thought it was a design philosphy change. I make a folder, drop a video in it, set content on the folder, do a recursive search. This adds the "Movie Information" menu to the folder as well as adding "play" to the folder. When I play a video and halt it, it adds the "Resume" and "now playing" to the menu on the folder. Playing and halting a file adds the "resume" and "now playing" to the file menu but never "Movie Info". I have 4 boxes. One is out on loan and I can't try it but the other three all do this. Its consistent. There are no errors.

Because of the way I use video's it not that big of a pain so I guess I can deal with it ;-)

Good thing its not my MP3's (17,000 and counting)...

All very odd that its only a couple of people...

    Anyhow, Thanx again

  • Thats great! Not really but I'm glad I'm not alone :-)

  • Does anyone know what can be done to take care of this on there current build with out having to roll back?

  • Hmmm... jyst noticed that T3CH XBMC 2007-04-15 SVN rev8519 is now up. Guess I'll give it a whirl and see what happens!

  • Well I only keep 10 - 12 videos on the go at once so what I've been doing is putting them in their own individual folders. The folders have the same name as the video. Then I can set content and use folder names for the video. This allows for movie info on the folder. Don't think this would be much fun if you had a raft of files tho...
