Concerning DVD movie playback...

  • i currently have xbmc installed as my dashboard, thanks to assistance received from this forum. it works perfectly with the exception of dvd playback.

    based on other, older posts in this and the features fora, is it true that it is not possible to go to the dvd movie's menu even with the current build? if not, how do i get to the menu? because currently when i put a dvd in, the main movie starts playing directly.

    also, as a worst case scenario, say i wanted to use the default xbox dvd player for dvds, would it work if i placed the following line in xbmc.xml:

    <dvdplayer>c:\msxboxdash.xbe</dvdplayer>

    (as i renamed xboxdash.xbe so that xbmc would be default dash)?


  • my only concern is that by renaming the m$ dash to msxboard.xbe, i have affected the default player in some way.i have it like that on one of my xboxes and it works just fine (only difference is i renamed mine to msxboxdash.xbe, but that doesn't matter)


  • do you have autorun on for dvds? i believer you need that turned on to make xbmc launch the external xboxdash.xbe (or whatever app you want) when you first put in a dvd disc.


  • i actually do have the xbox dvd playback kit, that is the remote and the dongle (aside: so that's what that thing is called. i've been referring to it as the ir receiver all this time).

    (as i renamed xboxdash.xbe so that xbmc would be default dash)?you must have a dvd-dongle (comes with the ms ir-remote) for that, and it must point to microsoft dashboard (default: c:\xboxdash.xbe)
    if you don't have a dvd-dongle and ir-remote then you can iinstall and point it to xecuter's dvdx 2.0 app (don't ask us where to get it)
